New Adobe Flaw Being Used in Attacks, Says Symantec

Cybersecurity experts are frustrated with the large volume of attacks orchestrated through a vulnerability in Adobe Systems' Flash Player software. ‘We've seen a new, previously undisclosed vulnerability in Flash that is actually being exploited in the wild,’ says Symantec's Oliver Friedrichs.

So far, criminals have hacked into approximately 220,000 sites and added scripts to these pages that redirect users to one of at least 57 Web servers. After a computer is compromised, the attackers try to install malicious software and botnets, and frequently target World of Warcraft users.

Since the victimised sites are so variegated, including Web pages for small towns, not-for-profit organisations, or businesses, experts believe the hackers are using an automated tool that searches Google for vulnerable pages. The flaw exists in the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player browser plug-in, a feature used mostly on animated sites.
