Peoplesafe
Chosen by Metro Car Parks for Lone Worker Safety
Choosing to protect its lone workers with Rocksure's Peoplesafe service
was a logical decision for Metro Car Parks, which puts security, customer
safety and new technology at the heart of its approach to parking.
Now, when parking attendants are working alone, specifically at night,
they know they have the additional safety provided by the Peoplesafe service.
Metro Car Parks has been operating its Huntington Street car park in Nottingham
since 2005. Situated underneath The Glasshouse, the city's new retail
and apartment development, the 250 space car park is open 24 hours a day
7 days a week and operates a unique shutter door system with ticket only
entry and customer services personnel on site at all times.
Whilst we have had no crime at the car park since it was opened,
I was conscious that as our parking attendants work alone at night they
could be vulnerable to an accident or sudden illness which leaves them
incapacitated, says Simon Fendick, Car Park Manager at Metro Car
Parks. Now with the Peoplesafe service they have peace of mind knowing
they can summon help at the touch of a button.
When Metro Car Parks attendants work alone, they press the 'checking in'
button, which notifies Rocksure's control centre. In this way, the control
centre is able to observe the wearer's movements and raise the alarm if
the 'checking in' button is not cancelled at the end of their shift. If
the red alert button is pressed, this instigates a set protocol that allows
the control centre to assess the need for help and call the police if
necessary. The record made of an incident can also help in the prosecution
of people who verbally or even physically abuse lone workers.
The Peoplesafe service was chosen for its simplicity of pricing,
ease of use and its 24/7 monitoring centre, concluded Simon Fendick.
It provides our car park attendants with an extra degree of confidence
knowing they have the means to manage their own safety.
The Peoplesafe service enables employers to meet the Health & Safety
at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
1999, which specifies that employers must identify potential hazards,
assess the risks involved and put measures in place to avoid or control
the risks associated with lone workers. The introduction of the Corporate
Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 this April has further underlined
the need for companies to implement a robust health & safety policy
for lone workers.
A leading supplier of lone worker protection to parking companies, Rocksure
Systems is also supplying its Peoplesafe service to a spectrum of other
markets. These include retail workers, security organisations, sales staff,
financial advisors, estate agents and maintenance staff.
