Sony
Launches Three Megapixel Resolution Network Cameras
At
IFSEC 2008, Sony built on its range of intelligent, IP-based cameras with
the launch of its first Megapixel designs - the SNC-DM110 and SNC-DM160,
are suitable for semi-protected outdoor environments and the SNC-CM120,
Sony's first fixed-position CS-Mount security box camera, with Megapixel
resolution.
Designed specifically to meet the high-performance needs of today's security
industry, each of these 1.3 Megapixel cameras uses Sony's advanced complementary
colour progressive scan CCDs with Sony ExwavePRO Technology and
Light Funnel Function (binning technology). Unlike conventional progressive
scan CCD imagers, this complementary colour filter technology provides
increased levels of light sensitivity needed to achieve optimal performance
from the camera optics of today's fixed-type Megapixel systems. Light
Funnel technology can be activated automatically in response to surrounding
light conditions or on a pre-specified time schedule.
ExwavePRO and Light Funnel technologies give Sony's fixed-type megapixel
cameras the capability to output extremely clear and detailed images that
deliver bright, high-resolution in even the most challenging lighting
environments, explained Simon Nash, Senior European Marketing Manager,
NVM/CCTV.
Light Funnel Function combines 4 pixels into 1 pixel, making the
cameras four times more sensitive so they can deliver focused images without
distortion in both day and night-time environments. As such they are ideally
placed for building entrances and car parks, where detailed images such
as faces and car registration plates are required. This is particularly
true of the more hard-wearing SNC-DM160 model.
SNC-DM160/110 Provide High Resolution, even at Wide Viewing Angles
The SNC-DM160 and SNC-DM110 provide high resolution images of 1280 x 960
even at wide viewing angles of over 100 degrees. This feature will lend
itself particularly to Sony's outdoor venue customers, and wide-area sites
such as stadiums, public buildings, city centres and parks. A Ball-Joint
Lens Mount mechanism means the lens can be rotated freely in any direction,
so unlike conventional cameras, it takes only one action to adjust the
pan and tilt angles.
The sturdy SNC-DM160 features a built-in heater and vandal-resistant polycarbonate
dome and aluminium die-cast housing to offer IP66 ingress protection.
The SNC-DM110 comes with a 2.8-10mm, 3.6x varifocal lens with minimal
illumination of less than 3lx at F1.3, and less than 1lx at F1.3 with
binning function. It also offers users up to 16 presets, advanced motion
detection, a microphone input and line out and Power over Ethernet. The
SNC-CM120 and SNC-DM160 are similarly equipped, with the SNC-CM120 camera
also featuring a 1/3-inch complementary colour progressive scan imager.
Additional features for the new cameras include a Night Mode setting that
provides clear images even when monitoring objects during challenging
settings such as dusk and dimly lit environments; variable gamma settings
that help to capture high-contrast images; bi-directional audio options;
and a slow shutter mode for additional bright image output. The cameras
also feature selectable compression formats that include both MPEG-4 and
JPEG, and take advantage of high frame rates of up to 30 fps at VGA settings.
Sony has built on the intelligent functionality of its video security
products by utilising its unique Distributed Enhanced Processing Architecture
(DEPA) technology, which is enhanced by an in-built Intelligent Motion
Detection function. This can initiate alarms based on specific movements,
minimising false alarms.
