Eurosatory
2008: Shaping Tomorrows Defence and Security
Eurosatory has just closed its doors on a renewed success in terms of
participation by exhibitors and visitors. This major international rendezvous
for land and air/land defence and security highlighted every component
of tomorrows defence.
A biennial occasion for all involved in the field (users, political and
military decision-makers and industrialists) Eurosatory presented a large
number of weapon systems and equipments. The 2008 exhibition was particularly
notable for the significant increase in the number of exhibitors, with
a new record in participation of 1210 exhibitors from 52 countries.
Visitor numbers are also increasing:
over 52,000 visitors from 145 countries were recorded;
117 official delegations from 75 countries were welcomed (460 VIPs and
251 Eurosatory Guests, including 12 ministers and vice-ministers, 10 secretaries
of state, 12 national armaments directors and delegate-general for armaments
and 17 chiefs of staff).
Eurosatory has also become the international economic meeting-place for
industrialists of the sector. To this end, the 'Eurosatory Business Meetings
®' programmed the organisation of 4,900 meetings between the major
defence industrial groups and small- and medium-sized firms. In parallel
with 'Eurosatory Business Meetings ®', on the advice on commercial
strategy space, many meetings have been organised with small- and medium-sized
companies wanting to move into international markets and the present consultancy
firms.
Among the highlights of the 2008 Eurosatory exhibition were the visits
of Mr Hervé Morin, French Minister of Defence; Mr Javier Solana,
High Representative for the CFSP of the EU; Mr Jouyet and Mr Bockel, respectively
French Secretary of State for European Affairs and French Secretary of
State for Defence and Veterans; Mr Alexander Weiss, Director of the European
Defence Agency; General John Craddock, Commander in Chief of NATO forces;
and also, for the first time, an Indian delegation led by HE the Ambassador
Ranjan Mathai.
Eurosatory 2008 is more than ever THE place to discover the latest innovations
and technologies used by armed forces, THE business meeting-place of the
sector between industry and decision-makers, and between companies, and
THE crossroads for reflection on future defence.
