TASK International, now part of The Inkerman Group, and provider of specialist training courses throughout the UK and in the International market, has announced that Barry Strevens has been appointed as Chief Instructor for its prestigious Close Protection Course.

Strevens' impressive career includes 30 years' experience in the Special Branch; he was responsible for the overall security protecting Prime Minister Thatcher for 9 years whilst she was in office and setting up the security network around Lady Thatcher when out of office. Barry was also responsible for running the Intelligence Cell on Irish Terrorism.
Barry more recently was Head of Security Protocol Division within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and as such was responsible for the Security for Conferences, VIP visits UK & Overseas, and Foreign Missions in London. He is regarded as one of the world's experts on Security Reviews and was responsible for reviewing the security of UK Embassies and High Commissions overseas whilst with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He brings a wealth of practical advice and instruction to those looking for a career in Close Protection, having worked himself at the highest levels around the world with VIPs and dignitaries.

Strevens, awarded the Queen's Police Medal in 1998, has already been lecturing on the Close Protection courses held at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, but will now be increasing his presence there.

Mark Harry, Director of Training at TASK, is pleased by the move ‘Barry has a huge amount of unique 'on the ground' experience in close protection, and he brings a unique and practical approach to his instruction on the course.’ The three-week course, run on a monthly basis, has been part of TASK's specialised training remit for many years. Recently acquired by The Inkerman Group, it is in the process if expanding and building on its past success.

Gerald Moor, CEO of The Inkerman Group, explains ‘TASK already has an excellent reputation in Close Protection training and Barry's increased presence and involvement will add a great deal - he is extremely experienced both internationally as well as nationally and those participating on these courses in the future will benefit from this.’

Since acquiring the business in October last year, The Inkerman Group has further integrated the two businesses by employing successfully qualified students from TASK courses into its own Close Protection teams.
