Camlock Keep Recharging Secure

ChargeBox® is a piece of equipment that enables users to recharge devices such as mobile phones, portable media players (iPods), PDAs and handheld games consoles while these are in a safe locker. When users are away from home, they can leave their device charging in the knowledge it is secure and then collect it at their convenience.

ChargeBoxes® can be found in locations such as hotels, gyms, train stations, airports, hospitals, Internet cafes and on the high street. The cost to use a ChargeBox® can be paid either with a £1 coin or by a SMS text, which costs £1.50.

The design of ChargeBox® uses ‘Octagon’ high security locks made by Camlock Systems Ltd. ‘Octagon’ products are constructed for maximum reliability and durability and feature a unique, patented design to enhance security. Only patented locks and keys can prevent unauthorised duplicate keys being cut in high street key cutting outlets. Also, the patents enable Camlock to restrict the issue of duplicate keys for the Octagon locks fitted to ChargeBox® machines solely to the proprietors. In addition, most ChargeBoxes® are watched over by staff at the location and many are also monitored by CCTV cameras.

Commenting on the choice of Camlock’s Octagon locks, Managing Director of ChargeBox® Ian Hobson said: 'Our research shows that people are becoming more and more dependent on mobile devices and running out of battery power when on the move is a major inconvenience. We place great importance on keeping these devices secure while in the Chargebox® so after trying other brands of locks, we now specify Camlock’s Octagon to protect all our machines.'

Information about Camlock's Octagon locks is available by e-mail from enquiries@camlock.com or by telephoning +44 (0)1323 410 996.

STENTOFON Flush Mount Stations

Zenitel has announced a new look for three of its popular flush mount master stations (7040, 7042, 7043) available from December. There is no change in size or functionality; the stations are totally compatible with the previous version.

Zenitel aims to give all its STENTOFON stations a design which is instantly recognisable and consistent in the market. The first stations which were designed according to the STENTOFON design guide were the IP Substations, released earlier this year. Now it is the turn of the flush mount station range.

The key change is in the pattern of the holes of the speaker grid and the look of the keyboard; the keyboard is now made out of silicone, which complements the rugged front plate in anodised brushed aluminium. Based on the hardware of the original stations, these new models are fully compatible with the AlphaCom and AlphaCom E.

All of the fully equipped master stations offer free access to all extensions and features. The Wall Master Station with display comes equipped with programmable single touch keys, a 2 x 16 character alphanumeric display providing caller identification, on-line help and a directory service amongst other features. Typical application areas are hospitals, airports, stores and warehouses, factory shop floors and nurseries.

These three stations have been a mainstay of the STENTOFON range for over fifteen years, and with the new design, look set to feature in the product range for many years to come. Be on the lookout for more stations in the future.

GuardTrax GPS Tracking System keeps Tabs on Security Operatives

The GuardTrax SFL™ (Security Force Locator) is a ‘real-time’ personal GPS tracking solution for field personnel. GuardTrax enables security supervisors and managers to track, monitor and manage their field security forces in ‘real-time’ at all times.

GuardTrax™, developed by NovaTracker, is a new suite of technologies that gives security firms and corporate security managers the ability to monitor, track, and manage field level security personnel in real-time over the Internet.

The GuardTrax SFL™ utilises a highly sensitive GPS antenna combined with GSM wireless communication to move critical location and activity data to a server platform. This data is then integrated into web-interfaced GIS mapping and satellite imagery software giving security supervisors and managers a virtual window from which they can view the activities of their security personnel in ‘real-time’ from anywhere in the world.

The unit combines GPS (location and tracking) with GSM (phone and data transmission), so security personnel don't need a mobile phone for emergencies, supervisor assistance or calls to the office. The GuardTrax SFL™ will dial 4 pre-defined phone numbers as well as a one-touch panic button for emergencies.

The GuardTrax SFL™ has an incident reporting system that utilises a straightforward multi-function button coding system and enables security personnel to ‘key-in’ as many as 23 specific event codes or incident reports relating security duty performance. These coded incident reports, together with the location, time, date, and other critical incident location data are received by the GuardTrax server where they are immediately relayed to supervisors and mangers via email or SMS.

In addition to the officer initiated or ‘keyed’ incident reporting, the GuardTrax SFL™ is equipped with a motion sensor that will report if the device has had no motion for a determined amount of time. Simply stated, if the unit is not in motion, the supervisor will know about it.

The GuardTrax SFL™ also has a non-keyed incident called the ‘geo-fence breach alert.’ If the device is taken in or out of a pre-defined area, then it sends a message to the GuardTrax server reporting that the device has entered or exited a defined area. All incidents and events reported through the GuardTrax SFL, after reaching the GuardTrax server are relayed through SMS or email to any number of desired recipients.

The GuardTrax SFL will deliver up-to-the-minute information to security supervisors on every incident reported by their security personnel anywhere in the world and will enable them to monitor the current, as well as the historical location data of their security personnel in ‘real-time’.

Having this kind of timely information will permit supervisors to ‘coach’ their field security staff through virtual monitoring and supervision. By using the GuardTrax SFL(tm) to supervise field security personnel, post checks and officer performance inspections are accomplished in seconds instead of hours.

GuardTrax can also alert supervisors if a guard travels into or beyond specifically designed invisible geographic boundaries or ‘geo-fence’. These geo-fence capabilities are created by GPS latitude, longitude, and radius parameters which can be remotely set over the air (OTA). So if a guard leaves his post, the supervisor will be notified immediately.

‘The security industry has been waiting for years for a system like GuardTrax that enables management to monitor the exact location and movement of each guard in real-time from any Internet enabled location to respond quickly and appropriately,’ explains David Leis, Chief Marketing Officer at NovaTracker.

‘Ensuring the personal safety and security of each guard, while monitoring performance, is now as simple as using a web browser, clicking on a location and watching the movement of each guard avatar. We believe it will help firms scale back management supervision costs, mitigate theft liability, and lower insurance costs.’

According to Brian Dooley, a well-known security consultant and guest lecturer at John Jay College who has tested the GuardTrax system, ‘Accountability has always been paramount and GuardTrax is taking it to the next level. With the top-of-the-line technology NovaTracker is putting forth with the GuardTrax system, you will know where security forces are at any given time and you'll have peace of mind.’

Weighing only six ounces and measuring approximately 2’x 6’, the GuardTrax unit is barely larger than the average cell phone and can easily fit into a shirt or trouser pocket. Rugged design and a weather-resistant case make for a highly-functional and durable device.

GuardTrax units will be leased on a monthly basis with prices based on quantity deployed.

Bomb Threat Detection for Public Places

3DX-Ray has produced a detailed technical brochure on its advanced portable x-ray system, TPXi-675, for bomb and threat detection in suspect packages.

The TPXi-675 is a portable x-ray system designed specifically for bomb and threat detection. It offers world-class image clarity, and can fit into tight corners. Being highly portable and quick to deploy it can help combat the terrorist’s increased reliance on ‘soft’ targets and high-pedestrian-traffic areas.

Weighing just 6.5kg for the source and 8kg for the detector, it is easy to transport and place, even when the user is wearing heavy protection. It is already used by police authorities in London and provides the largest detector area (around 53cm x 41cm) currently available.

The detector is just 5cm thick so it can slip into very narrow gaps behind suspect packages, previously the simple trick of placing a package near a wall would mean x-ray systems possibly could not be used.

The system uses secure WiFi communications so that the operator can retire to a safe distance after just a few seconds, yet can still control the system and view the resultant x-ray images.

Exclusive to RW Salt, they provide an effective solution to help calm and control crowds both indoors and outdoors and will play an important role in saving lives in the event of an emergency.

The Anchor range of portable audio solutions comprises three models, MiniVox, MegaVox and Beacon, which represent the latest generation of portable public address systems and provide significant benefits over traditional megaphones and loudhailers. They are easier to use for untrained personnel and, with extended frequency ranges of up to 60 Hz - 15 kHz, deliver a more human tone to the voice making announcements easier to understand over a wider area. Rechargeable batteries can be used throughout the range giving an operational life of up to 35 hours on a single charge ensuring that they are always ready in the event of an emergency. In addition, at up to 126 db, they are more than three times louder than traditional megaphones.

The Anchor range will form an essential part of standard emergency response kits and has been designed to meet specific requirements of current nationwide disaster response campaigns. These include Project ARGUS, a National Counter Terrorism Security Office initiative that is exploring ways to prevent, handle and recover from a terrorist attack. Programmes such as this are highlighting the importance of being prepared and having the necessary plans in place to help safeguard staff, customers and company assets.

‘These initiatives have shown that there is a mission critical need for effective communications during terrorist attacks or other emergencies where traditional public address systems no longer work after an explosion,’ commented Craig Buckley, Managing Director of RW Salt. ‘Research proves that the spoken word is the most effective way of evacuating people from dangerous areas in a calm and orderly fashion. The Anchor range of portable public address systems has the power and clarity to effectively control crowds in the critical period between an incident occurring and before the arrival of the emergency services.’

There are three models in the Anchor range:
